A Bittersweet Welcome

The Georgetown Right to Life board is so happy to see everyone back on campus for the fall. The virtual format of our last two semesters provided us with a unique opportunity to hear from professors, activists, and politicians from across the country but it was no replacement for seeing you all in person at our events. We hope to hit the ground running this semester so keep an eye out for details on upcoming socials, speaker events, and service opportunities.

While I am sure we are all excited to be back on the Hilltop, I want to take a moment to acknowledge and mourn the many tragedies that have taken place over recent weeks. Our organization’s central mission is to protect human life from conception to natural death and it is our responsibility to recognize where the need is greatest. News of the Kabul airport bombing broke just before I sat down to write this post. Dozens were killed, including thirteen U.S. service members. Earlier this month a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Haiti and many are still without shelter and, just this week, approximately twenty people were killed in Tennessee flood waters. It is our continued responsibility, in the face of these tragedies, to advocate for the dignity and advancement of humanity at every stage of life. This is why we do the work we do. This is why we care about more than just abortion and euthensia. There are so many lives worthy of protection and the work starts here. So be excited for the semester and Right to Life events, but take a moment to reflect on why you’re pro-life.
