Looking to the New Academic Year

Welcome home, Hoyas! We are so excited to see our returning members and get to know our future ones in the coming weeks.

This past spring, Georgetown University Right to Life welcomed a new board for the 2019-2020 academic year. Approaching the new semester, we are filled with hope and expectation as our recently elected leaders prepare to step up and fulfill their roles.

It is no secret that it can be difficult to be pro-life on Georgetown’s campus. With many preconceived notions about what being pro-life means, we are often dismissed as being simply anti-abortion. But, we would urge you to take a second look. In the past, we have held diaper drives to collect supplies for pregnant and expecting mothers, all of which were subsequently donated to the Northwest Pregnancy Resource Center; we have offered free babysitting services, with members taking time out of their busy schedules to help Georgetown students with children; and we have held the Pregnancy Resource Forum for over 20 years, with university speakers highlighting the different services Georgetown has for pregnant students.

You might notice that most of our advocacy has consistently focused on pre-born children and their mothers. As a result, we have decided to shift gears a little this year and focus on expanding the message of the pro-life movement at Georgetown: that being pro-life is being a supporter of the inherent dignity of the human person, from conception until natural death. Our theme for the year is “pro-life for all life,” so as to deliberately advocate for issues surrounding the death penalty, euthanasia, and immigration, in addition to the work we already do.

In doing this, we hope to increase awareness of what the pro-life movement really stands for, and delve deeply into the wide passions of our members.

Once again, congratulations to our 2019-2020 board–we cannot wait to see what this year will hold!
